Satchel, my 6-year-old, has always been very particular about his footwear.
When he was 2 and proudly wore a pair of ruby slippers everywhere he went, I found it endearing. These days, not so much.
He likes his shoes to practically strangle his feet. He pushes the Velcro straps on his Sketchers to the absolute limit, and still complains that they aren't tight enough.
When he recently announced that he wanted a pair of Crocs -- those rubber clogs with holes in them -- I was shocked. Crocs are anything but form-fitting, and I couldn't imagine trying to climb a tree in them.
"Crocs? Are you sure?" I asked.
