On Sunday, prior to the Super Bowl (Geaux Saints!) and the ninja snow attack, we took the monkeys (Satchel, 7, and Jiro, 5) and the dogs to Overton Park for a hike through the Old Forest. My husband, Warren, suggested that we walk along the edges of the golf course since the trails were a little muddy from the previous week's rain.
Even though it had been only a week since we were in the same spot sledding on the ice, we noticed a big difference. An oak had been struck by lightning and there was a fresh burn mark from top to bottom. We could even see a trail of splattered bark bits along the ground.
"Awesome!" the boys yelled as they went to investigate. They wasted no time climbing down into the Lick Creek ditch and scaling up the other side to get a closer look.
