Many Greater Memphis parents are finding ways to enjoy the holiday season that go beyond purchasing presents for their kids.
Katherine Baldwin said her East Memphis family has been scaling back Christmas presents, especially for the adults, instead donating to a charity in the name of the person. "Something that is connected to them in some way or that we know they are interested in," said Baldwin. "This year we're going to expand this to the children, though we'll still have some presents to open as well."
In Baldwin's house, her three children (Henry, 11; Richard, 5; and Sophie, 2) look forward to the arrival of an "elf" named Esther more than they do Santa. Esther arrives sometime near the first week of December and then goes back to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve with a bag of carrots for the reindeer...(Read more...)
